Flea Market DJ Kadeejah Streets

20 Oct

Oh Baby!! One of the most infamous DJs around, Kadeejah Streets is quite the enigma in the Northwest electronic music scene. While he’s made a name for himself through his affiliation with the Innerflight crew, KDJ made a solid impression on the Flea Market crew – and we absolutely had to add him as a resident. He kinda had us at hello.

On a fateful night back in March 2006, Kadeejah Streets was our special guest DJ at Flea Market, and it became crystal clear during his first set that he fit right into the Flea Market aesthetic: able to play in and out of any dance music genre and still retain his own uniquely festive and bright sound. With a subtle bop in his signature side-step dance behind the decks, KDJ rocked our world with one irresistible electro & tech house track after another, all party-starters and burners, never a dull moment. At the end of the night, we had our fourth Flea Market resident.

We also competed together at the 2010 Battle of the Mega-mixes competition. He narrowly knocked me out of the contest, but I completely understand why…

Perhaps a fitting example of the distinctive KDJ sound is his early 2011 mix for the annual Shameless My Bloody Valentine Is Shameless party, where he dropped another series of amazing tracks from the likes of D.I.M., Justin Martin, Walter Jones, among others.

One of my best experiences as a DJ was traveling with KDJ to Austin for the 2010 South By Southwest music conference and playing no less than three showcases together. Playing an hour tag-team set with KDJ on the patio of the Elysian bar right on a busy Red River Road with hundreds of attendees constantly walking by, with plenty of Lone Star beer at the ready, we recaptured much of the Flea Market spirit that sunny afternoon deep in the heart of Texas.

You know what to do this Saturday…
